Hi Fashion Loves,

Working to much I wanted to take an Adventure out of town where the phone service doesn't work as I pondered my mind and decided to head to Brevard NC, Home of the White Squirrels to visit the Silvermont Mansion.

Little Secret: Technology is so Advanced even high up in the mountains the phone service works but my work and loved ones didn't need to know that.

I chose this lovely Green Ensemble from Belk, Associate Discount, which is part of the Crown & Ivy Collection.  I decided to go with the Monochromatic Look which consist of tints and tones of the same color.  I absolutely flipped over the scalloped edged look of the shorts that Valentino had on the Runway last year.
The Crown & Ivy Collection is so light weight and has all sorts of bright colors which is usually a must for me. For the People up North, Belk is only in the South but it has a wide variety online to order.
The shoes are a Valentino look of the Rock Studs in a Royal Blue from Persunmall. I went with the Royal Blue to keep the eye moving which I learned in Interior Design School. The Monochromatic Look get more interesing with a pop of color to keep someones interest peaked..

Years back I went to Pretty Place the YMCA Camp located in the Cleveland SC and on the way home we passed this Majesty of a Home I wanted to stop at it but we were on our way back for an event at church. In all my years of adventuring I made a costly mistake this time I didn't photograph the sign inorder for me to revisit the area.  I set out on a quest to find this amazing home.

Highly Blessed and Highly Favored by the Lord Almighty himself  I found this Exquisite Architectural Beauty...

THE SILVERMONT MANSION
Located at 364 East Main St
Brevard NC 28712
The Silvermont Mansion is located on a 8-acre county park with lovely gardens which you can tour however the Mansion is only open to the public certain times of each month there is more infromation on  www.silvermont.org.

According to their Vision:

Silvermont Park is a vibrant community center and historic landmark valued by residents and visitors of all ages for its beauty, history, recreation, education, music and special events.

With that being said you can wander around the park and enjoy a family day or picnic.  On the day I decided to go the home was not open but at 7pm Thursaday during the summer they have Bluegrass Players inside the home. I wanted to stay but I was afraid to drive down the mountain alone at night.

The Mountains have what I call Kiss Your Butt Curves which make me nervous enough in the
daytime.

I was just as happy to wonder around this gorgeous madison and admire the amazing architecture which is my obsession anyway.
The Silvermont Mont Mansion names derives from the original owners "Silver" for Joseph Silversteen and "Mont" for his lovely bride Elizabeth Mount Silversteen who arrived to Brevard NC in 1902.  Joseph Silversteen had his home built ca. 1916 to accomodate his growing family of three lovely ladies. Mr. Silversteen hired architect C. Bertram French of New York to design the three story mansion known as the "Finest Colonial Greek Revival Architecture in North Western North Carolina".

Joseph Silversteen migrated to America from Russia with his father, mother and siblings trying to begin a new life as tanners ( animal hide is converted to leather) in Pennsylvania.  Young Joseph wanted to start his own business and with his research he had discovered of North Carolina's dire need for tanners so he and his wife, with the financial backing of friends and family, move to Transylvania County.  Joseph Silversteen being the ambitious man he was owned five industries in the county which included his tanning company-The Toxaway Tanning Company, Gloucester Lumber Company, The Gloucester Company Store, The Rosman Tanning and Extract Company and The Transyvania Tanning Company.

Elizabeth Mount Silversteen was not just a pretty face this colleged educated woman made her own mark on Transylvania County including Organizing a Book Club, Petitioned the County Commissioner to build a large Elementary School, She promoted plans for a High School, active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and Served as a Regent of North Carolina.
The Silvermont Mansion was known for its vibrant parties, dances and many social events but with the passing of Elizabeth Silversteen in 1956 and Joseph Silversteen in 1958 and then 1971 the passing of two of his daughters Miriam and Babe the only one left was Dorothy who resided in Flordia.  The Commissioner wrote a letter to Dorothy to deed The Silvermont Mansion to Transylvania County she agreed but the home continued to detoriate until 1981 when the Friends of Silvermont was established and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Silvermont Mansion is located in the beautiful mountain town of Brevard NC with plenty to do which includes shopping, near by hiking areas and eating at my favorite restaurants Dugans Pub with the best Cornbeef and Cabbage around.

Don't forget to look for the White Squirrels where history states they fell off a traveling Carnival Group and liked the area and stayed.  There is a White Squirrel Festival in May but the best place to find the White Squirrels is at the Brevard College around lunch time.

Fashion Loves it is mostly a 100 degrees in the south so I headed for the mountains which was 87 degrees. That is what is great about the area I live in I am 3 hours from Charleston SC and 1 to 1-1/2 hours from the Mountains.

Come see what our lovely area has to offer, relax a little and usually your privacy is respected...

Love,
Dana
